HOW IT ALL STARTED

In July 2017 while sat on a bench at Harvard University, I received a call from two friends who had just left their jobs to run their own company.

They had a fantastic concept but they had no idea about how to protect it. As a startup, they wanted to raise funds, find partners, and contact administrative bodies, which led them to inadvertently expose their project when they wanted to keep it a secret.

Those two friends stressed that using confidentiality agreements quickly discouraged potential business partners. At the same time, even before turning to the national or international IP institutions, all of the steps that would have been necessary to register their creations seemed complex, time-consuming, and financially burdensome. The idea of IPLocked was born.

My job is to help professionals achieve their intellectual property or blockchain aspirations and objectives while having adequate protection along the way. I do this by tailoring intellectual property and blockchain solutions to suit my clients individual needs.

I use blockchain technology to create the proof of existence of works in a faster, more transparent way and without middlemen. By managing my clients IP asset portfolio: making sure it’s in the right place, at the right time, as well as accessible when needed, I look to make the difference to their companies’ futures.

Considered a disrupt technology, Blockchain has already drastically changed the deeply ingrained structure and patterns of interaction, since the invention of the Internet in the 1970’s. Since its recent emergence, this technology has gradually reformed the running of industries such as car sharing, real estate transactions, banking transactions just to name a few. What does it have to offer to the field of intellectual property and innovation protection?

Applying our blockchain technology to IP management would permit creations to be indelibly and immediately stamped. This is why we provide a dated and time-stamped certificate when entrepreneurs and creators submit their creation or idea. In this manner, they are able to later certify that their data existed at the stamped time. Using a decentralized certification system based on the bitcoin network, our online service allows you to publicly prove you possession of certain data.

The blockchain guarantees the integrity of the creation

Blockchain guarantees the integrity of the creation. The digital footprint of each creative work is unique (certification page). Any modification will lead to the creation of a new hash. This solution is the electronic proof that the creator’s work is protected.

Using logos and slogans as an example, an ideal blockchain-based database enables a user to access the product’s digital certificate of authenticity, and this demonstrates where the trademarked product or service came from (its origin) and who owns the rights to the work.

Anyone can trace the product back to its origin and find the certificate of authenticity (verification page), thereby being to distinguish authentic products from counterfeit in market circulation.
